Smith Street Lofts – 185 Smith Street

Project Journey

Structurally revitalizing the 1970’s Manitoba Housing building into the stylish building that now soars on Smith Street was a multifaceted effort. The exterior saw an exceptional transformation by way of the installation of full height curtain wall for an improved building envelope and the installation of precast balconies anchored to the existing walls to optimize space. This 18 storey mixed-use building includes new double-storey lofts, as well as two floors of commercial/amenity space. A new parkade to serve the building was also constructed. Engineering these remarkable changes was done by utilizing the knowledge and experience from our Restoration, New Design, and Building Envelope Science teams.

Crosier Kilgour was awarded the Award of Excellence in Building Engineering at the 2023 ACEC Awards for this project.
