Ecole Waterford Springs School
Project Journey
École Waterford Springs School, which opened in 2021, is a new kindergarten to Grade 8 school built to address a shortage of elementary schools in the rapidly growing northwest section of Winnipeg. A 74-child daycare was integrated into the building design to allow for greater childcare access in the neighbourhood.
Crosier Kilgour’s team helped to ensure that sustainability was at the front of design considerations. The building’s bright open spaces provide a quality learning environment for students, and special features such as the outdoor learning space and Indigenous Morning Star art installation help to celebrate neighbourhood and culture. The site landscaping, which includes treed spaces, native perennial beds, an outdoor learning space, ample bike storage, and large playing fields, is a valuable resource to students and the surrounding community.École Waterford Springs School has been certified LEED Silver by the Canada Green Building Council.
Crosier Kilgour had a privilege of providing sustainability consulting and energy modelling services on this important project.
